Absenteeism is a sin against Humanity
The Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Health Insurance Agency, Dr. Olubunmi Jetawo-winter has described absenteeism as a sin against humanity and cautioned government facilities workers to desist from it.
She said this during the first quarter Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) Regional Engagement for Oke-ero, Isin, Ekiti, Irepodun and Ifelodun Local Government Areas of the state held at Mucenty Hotels, Omu-Aran.
She said “Being a health worker is a call to be a caregiver. And the care of patients must be priority always. The Governor has invested hugely in the health sector and we must make it a point of duty to compliment his effort, by ensuring we deliver service to citizens at all times.
Being absent from work is a great disservice to the people we have been called to serve and a sin against humanity.”
Dr. Jetawo-winter expressed her worries at the rate at which so many government-owned facilities are closed down for days due to absenteeism and unavailability of staff at some facilities.
“I wonder how anyone with a conscience would allow patients go through some of the stress people go through when they visit our facilities. This will no longer be tolerated, at least, not under the Kwara State Health Insurance scheme.
We must deliver quality health care at all times without compromise. The care all our enrollees should get must be equitable.
The Quality of care in Ilorin should not be different from the one being dispensed *in* Kaiama”, she said.
The Executive Secretary called on all Heads of Departments, Health, in the local government areas to desist from covering up ineptitude on the part of their staff.
She also frowned at bulling by some of the facilities and cautioned that affected facilities must stop it immediately.
Her words: “most of the enrollees are scared of reporting you because they are afraid you will take it out on them when they visit another time.
This is wrong and I will not tolerate it under the scheme. Patients are your employers and you must treat them as kings always”
The ES also assured the stakeholders that the present gap in staffing will soon become a thing of the past as the relevant *government* agency is working assiduously to bring it to an end.
The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) North Central Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Adelaja Abereoran, while addressing the stakeholders, spoke on the need to improve on service delivery and why NIN is made mandatory under the BHCPF.
He called on the stakeholders to herald the scheme to the grassroot and ensure more participation. He said the more people onboard the more fund will be available in the State.
